School of the Foundation Year - Programs

KCAI's art school foundation year immerses students in the studio
From the beginning, foundation year students at KCAI have time to hone their perceptions and spaces to express themselves through a broad range of media. Faculty who teach in the foundation year assist students as they learn the basic principles of design and elements of art.

Housed in a separate building, the traditional 2-semester art school foundation year is fundamental to all majors. Through experimentation with visual language, form-making, project-based learning and a range of increasingly difficult exercises, the foundation experience leads to a deepening awareness and understanding of basic principles of design and elements of art. The student's future life as an artist and creative professional is based upon these principles of design and elements of art. The use of computers to develop digital approaches for basic principles of design is highly encouraged for all art school foundation year students.

For more information on KCAI's art school foundation year programs, complete the form on the Contact Us page . A KCAI admissions representative will contact you shortly.
